There are no shortcuts for success. So there are few stages that you have to follow in order to achieve a successful interview.

Days before
  • Research the company: You need to know about the particular organization that you will be interview.
  • Practice the interview: Practice makes perfect and it will increase your level of confidence during your interview.
  • Check clothing: Make sure your attire is clean and ironed and most importantly comfortable.
  • Test drive: You can be sure of where is the location of the building, the time that needed to get there and any parking difficulties.
Day Before
  •             Call to confirm: Double confirm your appointment for an interview with the secretary.
  •             Get a good night's sleep: You will be fresh and alert in the next day.


      Day of interview
  •                   Get to the interview on time: Arrive at least 5 to 10 minutes earlier.
  •             Remember to switch off or silence your cell phone.

      During
  •             Pay attention: It will create a good impression to the interviewer.
  •             Relax: you should keep calm and relax so that your interview can go on smoothly.


Day After


  •            Send thank you note: Thank the interviewer(s) for making the time to meet with you. This is a polite manner and makes them remind of you.


Week after
  •      Make follow-up call: If you haven't heard from the company, make a quick call to the person who interviewed you or the Human Resources department.

Weeks after
  •           Be patient:  If you have any good news from the interview or the follow-up call, just be patient.

1: Time
Do not be late. The best way is you should be early 10 to 15 minutes at the interview location and familiar with the environment.

2: Polite
Interviewers should be polite to everyone in the company. Not only polite to the recruiter, and secretary, also should be polite to other people.

3: Decent
Sit politely. After entered the room, all actions should be according to the instructions of the recruiter to do, don't be stiff or too self-effacing.

To discuss the next appointment time with your potential employer if you are required for the second interview. To meet the next appointment, you have to avoid two extremes. The one is too easy-going, like 'any time is fine'. It would reflect that they are nothing to do. The other is too fast to say a time, without a second thought. The proper way is: think about it first, and then suggest one or two alternative time, do not choose a time that cannot be changed, leave room to each other.

After the interview, you should end, like 'Thanks for your time', 'Thank you very much' or 'Nice to talk to you' but don't say too much.

4: Body language
Don't take too many gestures because it can become a communication barrier.

5: Eye contact
Your eyes will be staring at each other. But don't look by glassy-eyed sight because it might make another party not comfortable with it. If there are more than one people in a room, you should scan the others when you speak, in order to show respect.

6: Be an Active Listener
You should listen with smile and nod your head as a sign of understand.

An application letter is known as a cover letter in the transmittal of your resume. Although letter of application is similar with to your resume, you should not repeat the same information as the resume. The main purpose of the letter of application is getting an interview. The following guidelines you have to follow in writing your job application letter.

In the opening paragraph, you should gain the potential employer’s attention. In the middle paragraph, you should convince the potential employer that you fit the job requirements and prove to the potential employers with qualifications and your skills. In the last paragraph, the letter should close with a positive, pleasant interview request. Do not forget that inside your application letter you should provide your contact information in order to offer convenience for the potential employer.

Besides that, an application letter should keep it short and to the point and its lengths should within one to one and a half pages. Application letter and resumes should not be folded because most organizations scan letters as well as resumes. Address the application to a specific person or use simplified format. Remember ask someone to proofread your application letter carefully; it must be accurate especially the receiver’s name, organization, address and his or her job position. At last, you should prepared a targeted letters because it is more powerful than general letters because you able to show how you can benefit the company.
